A New Beginning

So, it’s now January 1, 2009.

A time for new starts, new ideas, new concepts.

What are you going to change this year?

Here is a better question:  Do you know HOW to change it?

I was recently on a couple of  Diane Hochman’s calls.

The last two she talked about wisdom and closing books.

The definition of Wisdom from Wikipedia is: Wisdom is knowledge, understanding, experience, discretion, and intuitive understanding,  along with a capacity to apply these qualities well towards finding solutions to problems.

So, in order to gain wisdom, you have to have knowledge and understanding.

You have to learn in order to do that.

Experience leads to discretion, which leads to intuitive understanding.

Intuition is that feeling you get when you know it’s right, but you can’t explain it.

Again, you cannot experience this unless you learn.

Then you apply them well to find solutions to problems.

She also talked about how companies close their books at the end of their fiscal year.

Before you begin 2009, make sure you reflect on 2008, determine what it is you will do–and then close the book on it forever.

Don’t keep rehashing it.  It is time for a new beginning.

Wrap up your journal, have a little private ceremony, and throw away your insecurities, your fears, and your doubts.

Forgive yourself if you didn’t have the year you thought you should.

To change your 2009, there is only one thing you have to change. You.

Never forget that you have the power to change your environment by changing the way you respond to it.

One of Joe Schroeder’s favorite sayings is,”You don’t have to get it right, you just have to get it going.”

Don’t wait to make everything perfect.  It will never be.

But as long as you make the effort, everything else will start to fall into place.

Make 2009 the year that you find out who you will become.

For some extra reading material, grab a copy of “Just Who Will You Be?” by Maria Shriver.

And remember, I am here, willing to help you get on the right track.

2009 will be our year!
